January and February 2013 Newsletter
Dear Sisters in Thread, Gina and I want to welcome you to 2013 at Sew Together! We are excited to begin the New Year with lots of new ideas, blocks of the month and events. We are busy planning our Super Bowl Sunday sale the first Sunday of February and the debut of our Doll Show at the same time! We are also planning our 2013 Stash Dash: In the Good Old Summertime, June 20-22…it’s never too early to ask for the day off! (Or dream of warm weather!) Thursday January 24 is Visit Your Local Quilt Shop Day! Starting at 11 am we will be doing a new demonstration every hour! Come in and check it out! Great news! Trish is back with a 3-day doll making class starting Saturday Jan. 26 (10-4), Sunday Jan 27 (12-4) and Monday Jan. 28 (12-4). It is a great opportunity to learn from a pro! The 3-day class is only $40 with an option to come just Saturday and Sunday for $30. This series of classes repeats in February on the 16th-18th. Speaking of Dolls, we are accepting entries for our first ever Doll Show from Tuesday Jan 29 through Friday, Feb. 1. The show itself will start on Sunday Feb. 3 (also our Super Bowl Sunday Sale!) and everyone will get to vote on their favorite dolls! The top 3 viewer’s choice winners will receive gift certificates to the shop ($50-first place, $25-second place & $25-third place). Our Doll Show will be on display through Feb. 23. We would like to invite you to come to our Super Bowl Sunday Sale from 1-4 pm on February 3. Everything in the store will be 25% off except for yarn which will be 35% off! We also have a great selection of half-off fabrics, deeply discounted books and patterns and selected kits. It’s a short but very sweet sale and a great time to stock up on everything from books to fabrics and even thread and batting. Our clubs are all starting up again in the New Year. Knit Club meets twice per month on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30 pm. It is a great way to meet new friends, and if you need help, one of us can usually help! The cost is $5 per session or $35 for the entire year, whichever comes first! We will be meeting January 8 and 22, February 5 and 19. Knit club members also receive a 10% discount in the shop. UFO Club will meet on Saturdays January 12 and February 23, 10-3 pm. It is free but space is limited and you must register to come. Dear Jane Club is also free once per month on Wednesdays January 9 and February 13 from 11 am to 2 pm. It is for Civil War block enthusiasts and also welcomes the Patriots in Petticoats group. New members are always welcome. Christmas Club is changing this year…for $20 per quarter you will get 2 block kits per month and you will also receive patterns and ideas for ornaments, pincushions and more. Space is limited so please call to reserve your spot. Quilting classes this newsletter are numerous. Besides Beginning Quilting that starts a six-week run on January 7 from 7-9 pm, quilts include a Winter White Log Cabin design that makes a simple design look very sophisticated on Saturday Jan. 19 from 10-4 pm ($25). A quilted Pinwheels Quilt that features 2 sizes of pinwheels will be taught on Wednesday Jan. 23 from 5:30-7:30 pm. This class is free with the throw quilt-size kit purchase. Also free with quilt kit purchase is a throw sized Dresden Plate quilt on Wed. Feb. 6 also from 5:30-7:30 pm. A color-graduated Twisted Color Quilt is also being taught in two sessions on Tuesday, Feb. 5 & 19 from 10 to noon for $20. The Victorian art of Crazy Quilting, which features beautiful embroidery, is explored twice per month with artist Deanna VanAsche. You can join this group anytime. It meets on Fridays between 1-3:30 pm, scheduled on January 4, 18, February 1 and 15 for $10 per session. Other project classes for this schedule include a 10 Minute Table Runner that is quick and very easy. This class is free with fabric purchase and includes a take-home pattern to make more! You don’t even have to bring a machine to this class…just use ours! You can come anytime between 10 am and 5 pm on Tuesday, Feb. 12, just allow about 30 minutes to choose your fabrics and make your runner! You can also make a Valentine Keepsake Zippered Jewelry Case – all by hand! – on Friday January 25 between 1-4 pm for $10. This also makes an awesome needle case for someone you love! The New Year also brings 3 new Blocks of the Month to consider. “A Year to Crow About” is an 8-month, all pieced quilt that is sweet and easy and only $12 per month. “A Kitten’s Tale” comes to us from Lynette Anderson Designs of Australia and combines piecing and appliqué in a 9-month long commitment for $30 per month. Last of all, “Animal Whimsy” by Amy Bradley is a humorous large-scale appliqué quilt in 12 months that features many animals such as ducks, dogs and chickens in an easy project that any kid would love to have. It is only $15 per month and includes borders and binding. We also have two events to tell you about. The first is a special on cleaning and lubing your Handi Quilter machine. This is normally $140. For January only you can have your machine done for $95, by appointment only. The second event comes to us by way of the Evening Star Quilters of Davison Michigan. They are inviting people to come hang out with renowned quilter Ami Simms on Wed. Jan. 30 at 6:30 pm. She will present “Living with Quilts: A Survival Guide” where you will learn creative coping strategies for quilters and their families. The address is 10135 Lapeer Road, Davison, MI (the Davison-Richfield Senior Center). The cost is $5. More information can be had by contacting the guild president Caron Mosey of the Evening Star Quilters at http://eveningstarquilters.blogspot.com. We want to remind you to go to www.sewtogetheronline.com to sign up for our newsletter. It is easy to do and when you submit your email you will receive a free pattern! We would also like to encourage you to “Like” us on Facebook because we post quick pictures and updates there for your information. Class Policy: We offer all students of paid classes a 15% discount on all regular priced merchandise. You must register for classes early since we must notify the teacher with the number of registered students. Please don’t assume we know you are coming. Classes without the minimum number of students will be cancelled. If we have to cancel a class your registration is fully refundable. There is no refund if you cancel a class with less than a week’s notice unless there are special circumstances. In-store credit will be given under special circumstances, but Gina or Sue must personally Okay this. Call us at (586)727-1555. Hours: Tues.-Thurs. 10-5, Friday 10-7, Sat. 10-4.
