Dear Sisters in Thread,

            I want to tell you all "Happy New Year!"  It seems that many of us have had a challenging 2011 and are looking forward to starting fresh this January. So I wish you Peace, Calm, Joy, and Creativity in the New Year. And we hope you will share some of it with us!

            Gina is excited to announce the beginning of a new club – The Christmas Club –, which will meet monthly for free.  Bring a bagged lunch and we will provide coffee, tea or water and dessert.  The first month we will discuss ideas and everyone will get a free small kit. Each month we'll work on something wintry or Christmassy. You can do more than one each month. By December of 1012 you will have plenty for gifting or decorating. There will also be a demo each month of something new (or old!). Bring your ideas or dreams. It starts in February.

            In the same vein, I am offering a class on Saturday, January 7 called "Next Year's Tree Skirt!"  I know I'm tired of wrapping the bottom of my tree in an old table cloth, so I am offering this quilt-as-you-go tree skirt class so I can have something beautiful to dress my tree in next year! 

            We have a couple of new Blocks of the Month to offer, too.  "Chestnut and Vine" is a wonderful quilt in shades of rust and gold and is on display in the shop. It will take 6 months to complete.  Another quilt in 8 months will be "North Pole" an oldie but goodie that will be loads of fun to make and includes all the fabrics and trims needed.

            If you are new to quilting and want to learn all the basics, we are offering Beginning Quilting starting on Monday nights on January 16, 7-9 pm.  The class is taught in 6 sessions and you will have a great quilt when you finish. You can sew by hand or machine, and you do NOT need to cart a machine to class! Learning to quilt is fun and a great way to de-stress from the holidays! I have taught beginning quilting for over 25 years and it is my very favorite class to teach!

            Some other new classes this session include "Family Estate," a wonderful wall hanging that features a house and embroidery to hang proudly in your home. The "Clothesline Bag" class will show you how to wrap and form clothesline into designer-style bags. The "Spider Star Quilt" is a great traditional string quilt that is great fun to make.

            We also have some beginning knitting and crochet classes for those of you who want to learn those crafts, too!

            Many clubs are beginning new years, including HandiQuilter, UFO, Knitting, Embroidery, and Deanna's Crazy Quilting.  These are wonderful groups of women who always welcome new members to their groups.  Clubs are great because they share expertise and friendship with everyone.

            Of course, our newsletter wouldn't be complete without our annual Super Bowl Sunday Sale on Sunday, February 5 from 1-4 pm.  Everything in the shop will be discounted including fabrics (even sale fabrics will be further reduced), books, patterns, notions, thread, trims, kits...well you get the picture! If you spend up to $50, you will get 15% off.  Spend $50.0l to $100 and get 20% off.  If you spend over $100.0l, we will give you 25% off your purchase! HandiQuilter machines and accessories, consignment items, special order items and Blocks of the Month are the only things NOT included in the sale.  This is a great way to start your projects for the New Year! This sale is a fun one to attend, and we get you home in plenty of time for the big game!

Class Policy

Be sure to call 586-727-1555 to register for a class today!  Our class policy is that we offer all our students a 15% discount on all regular priced merchandise with a paid class fee.  You MUST REGISTER EARLY FOR CLASSES since we must notify the teacher with the number of registered students.  Please don't assume we know you are coming.  Classes without the minimum number of students registered will be cancelled.  Make sure we have it in writing in our class registration book!  If we have to cancel a class, your registration fee is fully refundable.  There are no refunds if you cancel a class with less than a week's notification unless there are special circumstances.  In-store credit will be given under special circumstances but Gina or Sue must personally Okay this.
