July/August 2011 NewsletterDear Sisters in Thread, Welcome to heat, sun and the joyous time of summer in Michigan! We hope you all had a wonderful Fourth of July and are ready to stretch your creative hands with some new classes. We have some beautiful quick classes that will tempt you to keep your machine humming this summer. We have a special tote bag class for teachers, an evening crazy quilting class, paper piecing techniques, table runners with a twist, a nighttime embroidery club, and even a bead-weaving bracelet class on our schedule! We are planning a quilt show, Traditions in Quilting, in early September, and are in the planning stages of Halloween Week beginning August 29 with treat bags, table runners, throws and more to celebrate. There is even a Quilt Show at the Octagon House in Washington Twp. on July 30! There are also new blocks of the month ready to debut. "Farm Fresh" from the Buggy Barn is a sentimental quilt with flags, flowers, pumpkins, wagons and more. "The Night Before Christmas" by Bunny Hill is sweet with all the excitement of a child anticipating Christmas. These are just two of our wonderful BOM's, so please come in and see the whole range available. Knit Club has been busy this summer. Several of us are making the Mystery Shawlette from Wendy Knits' blog. What fun. But, of course, you can knit on whatever pleases you at the club meetings on the first and third Tuesday of each month from 6:30-8:30 pm! Breakfast Club, which meets once a month on Saturday morning, is encouraging you to bring your UFOs for a fun day with help available. If you have ever wanted a tote bag that could hold just about anything (teachers, I'm talking to you!), the Chubby Charmer is for you. Made with those wonderful 5" charm squares, it is incredibly sturdy. If you always wanted to try Crazy Quilting but couldn't make our usual afternoon classes, Deanna is coming for an evening to give you a taste of the Victorian art with a simple but exquisite pin cushion to make. If you recently purchased a Lil' Twister ruler from us, I have put together two original fun table runner projects that are quick but will give you a good taste of what the ruler can do. Both runners are on display at the shop and you get both patterns when you sign up for my class. Gina is also offering a Cottage Flower Table Runner from Kim Diehl that will be lovely to make. If you want to learn a new skill, Paula's Fusible Appliqué class and Gina's Paper Piecing Wall hanging classes are for you. We also have a couple of SALES that might interest you! From July 5-30, if you buy any one regular priced pattern, you can get another (same or less priced) for half-off! This includes the very popular Crabapple Hill Patterns, too!! This is good on in-stock patterns only. You can buy one fat quarter and get a second FREE the week of August 2-6! This is a great bargain, so don't miss it! And it is not too early to start planning for our Good Old Days "Traditions in Quilts" quilt show, Sept. 6-10. We will have 3 professional quilters judge your quilts entered. There will be a $100 Gift Certificate to our shop for a grand prize and a $50 Gift Certificate for the runner up. We will be accepting quilts for display August 30-31 (Tuesday & Wednesday). Quilts should be new (not antique) and show their traditional roots. We are looking forward to your entries!
