Taking the Blues out of Winter!
Dear Sisters in Thread,
Reading all the posts after Christmas this year, I was taken by the number of people who expressed a “let down” feeling after the holidays. They had the blues. Now we can all agree blue is a lovely color but not emotion. So we are here to brighten your days and give you a creative outlet that is better than a dose of antidepressants! We have events, classes that include lunch, clubs for every taste and more. We are excited to announce the creation of a new summer event for Eastsiders, and Downton Abbey Fabric for all of us fans of the show! And of course, there’s our annual Super Bowl Sunday Sale!
Jo Morton’s Little Women Club is ready to start! It will meet at two different times beginning in February. On Wednesday Feb. 5 at 11 am (this group is at capacity) and Saturday Feb. 8 from 1-3 pm. There is still room in the Saturday group! This is going to be a great club and you will have a ton of fun! Please call the store to register if you are interested in joining.
It is also the beginning of a new year of Knit Club which meets the first and third Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:30 each month. You work on your own projects with help available. You can crochet, too! It is $5 per night or a total of $35 per year, which gives you the option of trying it out without a great cost. Knit Club members also receive a 10% discount in the shop. We also have some lovely new yarns to stimulate your yarn-stash appetite!
Also in our schedule are new sessions of Christmas Club, Crazy Quilting and Dear Jane Club. We have a new session of Beginning Quilting starting on Monday January 20 and running 6 weeks from 7-9 pm. It is a great class for anyone who has wanted to learn the basics. You don’t need to bring a sewing machine and can even sew by hand if you prefer!
Are you a quilter who is ready to try something new? We have two Saturday sessions that will include a hot lunch while you make a quilt for any size bed you prefer. Log Cabin Day is Saturday Jan. 18 from 10 am-4 pm and you can make any version of Log Cabin Quilt you prefer, scrappy, planned, large or small “logs”. In February on the 15th, same times, you can make a braided quilt, again for any size bed, scrappy or planned color scheme. Both Luncheon Quilt Days are $25 and limited to 6 quilters each session. Please register as soon as possible so we can plan our lunch!
This year Super Bowl Sunday is February 2. We will celebrate in style with Super Savings of 25% off all regular priced fabric, books, patterns and notions from 1-4 pm! Make a touchdown and save a bundle for your quilting needs and wants! And get home in plenty of time to enjoy the chicken wings and the game!
Now January is the beginning of Season 4 of PBS’ Downton Abbey and I know plenty of you are diehard fans! We are carrying a great grouping of fabrics inspired by the show and have more on order. Gina is making a quilt from them that will soon be hanging in the store, so stop in and check it out. You will be delighted.
And now for some really monumental news: June’s Stash Dash is no more. But don’t despair! We have something even better happening. The Sew and Sew Summer Sizzle Quilt Show will be a joint effort between Sew Elegant Quilt Shoppe in Fort Gratiot and our shop on Thursday June 19-Saturday June 21! We want to display your quilts – any type or size – and give you a chance to win our viewer’s choice. We will have lots of fun and prizes and a great SALE, too. There is no charge to enter, no passport fee to pay. Just visit both of our shops and vote for your favorite quilt. Each purchasing adult will have a vote. Entries are limited to one per person. We will have more information on this as the time approaches, but we wanted to give all of you a heads-up so you can finish that prize-winning quilt for our show!
